Team SRC

What we do

Our charters run across the Solent and further afield. We offer steady freelance work for those who are able to work on weekdays during the summer from May to October. We operate throughout the year and we also have less frequent freelance work available during the winter months.

What's required

All of our skippers must have a minimum of a commercially endorsed RYA Advanced Powerboat certificate. You must also be over the age of 20 and ideally live within 45 minutes of the Solent. To work on jobs for us away from the Solent, you will need a towing licence as we often trailer our Ribs to London for charters on the Thames and as far afield as Scotland.

Getting qualified

Solent Rib Charter does not run or pay for training courses. We do however work closely with Powerboat Training UK (PTUK). If you mention us when booking, they will offer you a discount on their courses. Based in Poole they also have a classroom in Lymington and often run courses between both locations. PTUK own a couple of our x – fleet 7.8m Ribs which are very similar to our current fleet; qualifying on these boats makes for an easy transition to skippering ours. Please do talk to PTUK about your training requirements rather than us.

Commercial work

Commercial Rib Charter (CRC) is another branch of our company. If you are interested in more long-term commercial skippering or crewing on bigger cabin Ribs, then please visit our careers page on the CRC website. For our commercial work, we recruit throughout the UK. We operate on contracts around the UK coastline and occasionally in Scandinavia and Northern Europe.

Get in touch

If you have the qualifications needed to skipper for us, and live close by, then please call us on 01590 607101 or email jakob@solentribcharter.co.uk. We run an induction day at the start of every season. If you’re looking to join later in the season then please do call to discuss in further detail. Once again, please note that your qualifications will need to be commercially endorsed before we are able to offer you any work. Guidance on commercial endorsement is available either from PTUK or the RYA.

A group of people wearing life jackets enjoy a fast RIB boat ride on the Solent, smiling and waving as the boat cuts through the water with splashes around them.
