Volvo Ocean Race Rotterdam

In 2006, Solent Rib Charter took a fleet of 24 Ribs to Rotterdam to support the City as it hosted the Volvo Ocean Race stopover. We watched the leg finish at 02.00 with our 192 VIP guests embarked but perhaps the most memorable part was supplying an escort to the barge carrying DJ Eric Tiesto into the upper basin where 250,000 had gathered for a free concert. We were tasked by the City to make an arrow formation with all 24 boats and tour the basin perimeter at high speed dispensing orange smoke in support of the Dutch football team.

Venice

Perhaps the most unexpected image in our library is one of a Rib supporting an Extreme 40’ catamaran as part of the Extreme race series near St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice. A really interesting job and a great end to a season that included events in Spain, Holland, France Italy, Switzerland and Germany.

Hong Kong

One of our more unusual jobs was supplying small mark laying Ribs to the Extreme 40’ race series in Hong Kong. Operating in Hong Kong harbour was as interesting and different as you might imagine. We managed to ship two Ribs in a single container by removing the windscreens and seat backs from both boats.

Oman

We have long enjoyed close links with the Sultanate of Oman. Oman has a passion for sailing and they are always well represented at important international events. For several years we shipped Ribs out to Oman for their sailing season and brought them back in time for the Northern European summer season.

France

Over the past ten years we have provided Rib support for Alex Thompson’s Hugo Boss IMOCA 60 racing yacht. We have trailered up to twenty of our Ribs to France to provide media & VIP spectator boats for the start of every race. As well as supporting Alex Thomson Racing, we have also provided boats for other teams taking part in both the single handed around the world race ‘Vendee Globe’ which starts and finishes in Les Sables-d’Olonne and the famous single handed Saint Malo to Guadeloupe race ‘Route du Rhum’.
