Solving a real access challenge

Royal recognition for innovation

We are delighted that Solent Rib Charter has been awarded a King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category. This recognition celebrates the design, launch and operation of CRC Walrus, a 13m amphibious crew transfer vessel built to access areas where traditional vessels can struggle, including shallow water, drying seabeds and shifting coastal environments.

At a glance

The King’s Award for Enterprise is the UK’s most prestigious business honour and a globally recognised mark of excellence, celebrating outstanding achievement and innovation.

CRC has been recognised in the Innovation category for 2026 for the development and operation of CRC Walrus, the world’s first amphibious crew transfer vessel.

Built for difficult access

CRC Walrus was designed to transfer technicians and cargo between sea and land using three deployable wheels. Built for shallow, tidal and drying areas, the vessel can reach locations that would otherwise be difficult or impossible for conventional crew transfer vessels to access.

Proven in offshore wind

Launched in February 2023, CRC Walrus was first deployed to Scroby Sands Wind Farm. MCA Cat 2 coded for 8 passengers and 2 crew, the vessel has proven its value in live commercial use, with the contract since extended to 5.5 years.

Continued investment

The success of CRC Walrus has spurred further investment in amphibious marine capability, including the acquisition of three Sealegs amphibious RIBs. For our team, clients and partners, the King’s Award is a proud recognition of the practical thinking and hard work behind this project.
