Risks

Swimming

Please remember to always risk assess your swimming area, anchor out of strong tides, stream a fender astern on a long line, deploy the recovery ladder and ensure the helm stays onboard to keep watch. We advocate taking the key out of the ignition and placing on the console as an extra precaution against propeller tragedy.

At a glance

Totland & Alum Bay

On a summers day you will see many yachts and Ribs anchored up in Totland and Alum Bay, located at the westerly tip of the Isle of Wight, close to the Needles. The bays are sheltered, and their clear, safe waters make them a popular destination for a day of swimming and picnicking onboard.

Newtown Creek

Newtown Creek is protected by the National Trust and is one of the most natural and untarnished anchorages in the Solent, making it a hidden gem and a paradise for wildlife. A perfect spot for anchoring, a bit of fishing and swimming.

Osbourne Bay

Situated east of Cowes, Osbourne Bay is the first bay you will come across. The bay is usually well sheltered from the wind which makes it a great suntrap and an ideal spot for an afternoon swim.

Yarmouth

Located on the north west of the island at the mouth of the River Yar, Yarmouth encompasses an attractive harbour and town. To the west of the main harbour, you will find an uncrowded beach with a buoyed swimming area and a BBQ pit, perfect for some family summer fun.
