Little Britain Challenge Cup – 11th September 2020
The Little Britain Challenge Cup is the largest industry regatta for construction and property related business. The event usually includes four races across two days from Shepards Wharf Marina, Cowes, however due to Covid-19, the 2020 Little Britain Challenge Cup will now be a smaller, one-day regatta based out of Port Solent on Friday 11th September.
Since its foundation in 1988, the event has attracted hundreds of participants from the sector and has raised over one million pounds for various charities. The 2020 regatta will be dedicated to raising money for the LBCC sailing charities who have been heavily affected this year due to the pandemic.
The Race
The one-day regatta will hold 3 races to a series, the first race commenting at 1030h, with lunch taken on board for participants between race 2 and 3. Sailing will commence from Port Solent, with racing taking place in the Solent around the ‘cans’ (Solent buoys and marks). There are two main classes: Match racing onboard new Sunsail 41.0 without spinnakers and IRC class raising. Many companies from the construction and property industry charter yachts to race, and some bring their own boats. Boat lengths range from 25ft to 55ft.
