For centuries, the Solent coast has sported a rich maritime history and played a pivotal role in the UK’s coastal economy. The Coastal Powerhouse Summit is a landmark event that brings together industry leaders, academics, policy makers and startups to accelerate innovation and decarbonisation across the coastal and maritime economy.
On March 26-27 of this year, the Coastal Powerhouse Summit is set to take place at Associated British Ports Ocean Terminal in Southampton, and will be hosted by Maritime UK Solent in collaboration with ABP and innovation platform Plug & Play.
The summits focus in on accelerating innovation and promoting decarbonisation within the maritime sector, with an aim to showcase the Solent’s maritime excellence and its contribution to the regional and national economy.
Day 1 of the event is set to host prominent speakers, including Mike Kane MP, Minister for Aviation, Maritime & Security, and Alastair Welch, Port Director at ABP. The panel will discuss topics on port sustainability and clean maritime practices.
Day 2 will see discussions on mentoring and apprenticeships, featuring the Maritime UK Solent 2024 apprentice of the year, Noorhantosha Sharrai. Day 2 will also see the launch of the Maritime UK Solent Future Leaders programme, as well as on-the-water demonstrations showcasing the latest in maritime technology innovations.
Events like these underscore a commitment to staying at the forefront of maritime innovation and sustainability, bringing together key movers and shakers, and thus impacting everyone within the maritime space, both hobbyists and operators alike.
