The Solent Rib Charter team decided it was time to show their support for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), by completing the annual Lymington 10k.
The event is hosted and organised by the RNLI and celebrates the local maritime heritage whilst supporting the lifesaving work completed by volunteers. The race is a great opportunity to raise money for the charity.
Theo Glennie, Hannah Taylor and Jakob Clayton-Smith, members of the SRC team, participated in this year’s race against a stunning coastal backdrop. The trio showcased Solent Rib Charter’s commitment by donning lifejackets from start to finish.
The race began at 10:00 on Sunday 12th May from Woodside Park, which coincided with the RNLI’s 200th birthday which was celebrated in March.
Once the gun sounded, the runners were directed out of the park to Keyhaven along the ‘ancient highway’ before returning via the Keyhaven marshes and Sea Wall. The route involved very minimal shade which created some red-faced runners as the Sun was out in full force reaching a temperature of 23 degrees.
Despite the uneven terrain and blistering sun, the trio stuck together and managed to cross the line simultaneously. Crossing the line, they triggered their lifejackets in a jubilant display, which not only symbolised their connection to the sea but also highlighted the hard work the RNLI goes through on a daily basis.
