Earlier this year, Solent Rib Charter received The King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category. On Tuesday 8th September, we marked the occasion properly, with the official presentation ceremony at SRC HQ in Lymington.
The award was presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson, the King’s representative in the county, accompanied by Deputy Lieutenant, Mrs Maggie Carver CBE.

The King’s Award recognises CRC Walrus for its unique ability to safely transfer crews across shifting, drying sandbanks where traditional vessels simply can’t operate. As our director, Stuart Hedges, put it: “Walrus was built to solve a real-world challenge. Seeing it recognised with The King’s Award is a proud moment for our whole team and everyone who helped make it happen.”
Joining the team were the partners and guests who helped bring Walrus to life, along with the Mayor of Lymington and members of the RNLI and HM Coastguard, whose work alongside ours on the water means a great deal to us.
For Solent Rib Charter, The King’s Award represents a milestone, not a finish line, with ambitions to continue pushing the marine industry further.
